dual alt

can someone help me? i've got a little car with about a 70 amp alt. i need more juice. just help me with one thing. . . parallel or series? i dont want to fry nothin.

why not upgrade the alt that's in there to begin with? A 200+ amp alternator will make a huge difference. Dual alts only start to make sense when you have multiple-hundred amp beasties running in tandem.

He's saying because you're getting it from a junkyard. I've actually thought about this too. Why not add on another stock alt (110 amps) for about $180 on the net instead of dropping 300-400 for a 200 amp one.

If I were to do a second alt in my car. I would start with at least one battery just for the stereo. It will make life easier than trying to tie it in with the factory alt. second One positive one negative( on my car anyway) and a big wire upgrade get rid of the 12 AWG crap that most MFGs use and go with a minimum of 8 AWG for the typical 85 AMP alt. If your alt is bigger than that get bigger wire. Fuse it , and ground it to the body as well as the block.

So it'd probably be easier to basically have a separate electrical system just for the stereo... hmm interesting, but what if the stock alt can't handle the stereo's current pull, hence if I had them both hooked up they could err work together.

thats what im saying if my 70 amp alt cant handle the stereo, what makes me think that a diff 70 amp alt will do it. pool them together and *poof* 140amp. the question is how do you tie them together?
