Dual 300a Alt Install '01 Excursion Diesel

The first and easiest step was installing the external adjustable regulator. MechMan makes this so simple with their prewired factory plugs. All that's needed is to connect one wire to an ignition source then plug in the alts. That's it. It's so simple I couldn't figure it out cause it just seemed too freakin easy.

Regulator mounted in the upper driver's side corner.

Old MLA modules. No need for these anymore with the external adjustable voltage regulator. Now instead of a preset voltage it can be adjusted as needed.

Plenty of wire for easy installation.

Adjustable knob mounted on the underside of the dash.

Upper alt removed.

Alt comparison pics. 200a on left, 300a on right. MechMan includes a dedicated grounding point on the alternator and 1/0awg copper lugs making upgrading the factory wiring very easy. It's not very noticeable but the MechMan alts do come with a slightly smaller pulley.

Notice the difference in the positive terminals. I believe MechMan alternators are the only ones that include an upgraded larger stud to handle the extra current. I've heard horror stories of alternators from other companies burning up their posts because they couldn't handle the current.

1/0awg power and ground wires ran from the alt to the battery.

New MechMan 300a lower alt installed.

Belt put back on and everything running great.

We did a quick test of the alts just to make sure they were working properly. With a single Sundown saz-3000d wired to 0.33ohms powering three Fi Btl 18s my brother cranked it full tilt and the voltage didn't flinch from it's 14.9v set point. I wanted to get some vids of everything in action but we ended up getting some bad rain so I'll add some vids to this another day. We'll soon have 4 of the new Sundown saz-3500s in here. These alts won't have any trouble feeding them the juice they need.

what alternators come stock on that truck? im curious why they used two instead of one beefy one
