Hello all. I've been removed from car audio since my high school days and need some opinions on selecting a sub. Below are the specs of my mono amp.
- 500 Watts x 1, at 4 ohms
- 1000 Watts x 1, at 2 ohms
- 1200 Watts x 1, at 1 ohms
The sub I'm looking at is a 12" 1000RMS/3000Peak with a dual 2ohm voice coil or dual 4ohm voice coil.
I only want one sub to go in my SUV. I have no intention on adding others as I have a family now and room is just as important. In high school I built my own box so I intend on doing the same. Looking at around .88 -1.0 cu. ft sealed as specified by the sub manufacture.
So, what sub would you buy (2ohm or 4ohm) and how would you wire it? The man in me says by dual 2ohm and wire it for 1ohm and pull every last watt out of the amp. But those extra 200 watts may shorten the life of my amp/sub. Don't want that.
Lastly, do I need a cap with this size amp and if so what size?
Responses are greatly appreciated. Not looking to win any SPL awards, just want to add a nice kick with a clean and simple install.
