Drove stick for the first time today...

I learned the clutch riding my '91 250x by the time I was 10...then, I got a job as a farmhand, so I drove a lot of manual vehicles, including tractors. Since I already knew the concept from the 4-wheeler, I just had to apply it to the different controls. I got it down pretty smoothly.

i learned on a '95 corvette. You could do a standing start in 3rd and not stall, it doesn't even count.
A friend of mine has an '04 Dodge Ram 2500, chipped with a BullyDog under the hood.

He put it in 5th and the truck took off by itself. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I got a great deal on a 96 Toyota Supra with built engine pushing 700HP on a OS Giken triple plate clutch 6 speed. I had never driven a stick shift a day in my life and none of my friends in Japan had stickshifts so I learned how to drive it by pulling out of the car lot and hitting up the city and stalling the sh*t out of it quite a few times.

But OP, I think I saw in another post you stated you were getting a newer Honda Civic. If so then you will love the clutch on it. When I got back to the states I bough an 08 Accord Coupe and loved the clutch on it. Really smooth, forgiving and large engagement point so you wont mess up and stall out too often

I decided I was going to buy a stick shift and that I couldnt take autobox anymore. Called my buddy and asked him if he was busy, he said no. Told him he needed to show me the art of driving stick on his old Mazda Protege. Started it off a couple of times and took it down the road, that was it. Then went to go pick the car up from the dealer and stalled numerous times on the way home and had a stressful week of traffic on the way to work haha. Car was an 08 Pontiac G5 aka Cobalt.

Since driving I have found that my G5 and fit have the worlds fastest engaging clutches. Older cars seem to be better for learning on fsho. Old 1976 Sierra Grande is probably the weirdest to drive. The clutch pedal has to really be stomped.

Its so crazy to think that a majority of people now dont know or have never driven a stick. I might be showing my age, but in highschool almost everyone including the girls had a car with a stick. Remember in the 80's and early 90's automatic meant your car was more than a ecomomy or beater your parents gave you. Only the girls who had money and nicer cars had autos in highschool. Its crazy to think that you walk into a dealer today and even on an ecomomy car must ask specifically to see if you can get it in a stick and in many cases you cant.

I had to have them do a dealer trade to get mine. I wanted a black one but there werent any for like 5 states. My G5 was in blue because it was literally the only 5speed aside from the Cobalt SS within about 700 miles. Most people dont even know what a manual ****** looks like or have any clue on how to drive it. I am honestly a little more attracted to a girl who drives a stick. Shouldnt be that big of a deal but in America it is these days. Honestly if you get a new car in manual its a niche market anymore so as far as i am concerned it will be desired and worth more when you go to sell it.

The day I got my license, I went to my uncles house and asked to drive his car, since its now become "my car" (its just in his name). He said OK..

Backed out the driveway carefully, drove around the neighborhood for 5 minutes, then went out on the public roads. lol. I never did have much trouble with it.. stalled it a few times, never did have that bucking problem your talking about. That happens from hitting the gas, and then when the car bucks, letting off, then hitting it again, etc... Ive let a few of my friends drive my car, and they did that exact thing. I had to grab their legs to pull it off the gas pedal hahahaha

FWIW, I drive a 95 Nissan 240sx. Not the easiest clutch to learn on. I ride motocross, so it was all the same things just applying them differently

Also, I never want an automatic car EVER again. I love driving a stick.. I prefer it over driving an automatic. You cant drive an automatic hard without the ****** freaking out and dieing an early death.. a manual you can just throw a new clutch in.
