Drilled into gas tank

^^^^ exactly. Unless you have done this before i would not do it unless you or someone thats going to be there helping you had done this before. Its not an easy job and by the time you get everything done and all put back in and you happy most of the time the leak kits dont even work....... Best choice would be just to do it right the first time and get a whole new tank. I have done about 10 diffrent gas tank jobs at my dads shop and trust me your going to need help.
With the possible exception of needing an extra pair of hands for the dismounting/remounting part of it why would he need help?

And as far as most of the tank repair kits not working? I would suggest that you're not using them right if that is your experience as I have seen the kits available at Auto Zone, Pep Boys, wherever work time and time and time and time again. Dunno why you're having bad luck with 'em???

Just what i was meaning he is going to need an extra set of hands or maybe 2. Depends on how full of tank he does it with. And if he wants to save the extra gas or not. Its not that i am having bad luck with the kits its the simple fact that they do not hold up well. Some will hold up for a little while but soon enough it will leak again I have seen very few that dont.

Depending on how good a friend he is, I'd bill him for the cost of a new gas tank...

I would if I didnt wait a year and a half to do something about it. I mean I just put 2 and 2 together. I wish I would have fixed it a month ago when I had to drop the tank to change my fuel pump and filter. It was a huge pain to do that so I kinda know what Im in for.

I would definately pull that tank out as soon as possible to see what the hole looks like. As long as its just a small hole from a drill bit it shouldnt be too hard to fix, JB weld does work wonders, not sure about on a gas tank so I'm not gonna encourage you to use it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Drain the tank to about 1/4 full, slosh it around and then repair it with an arc welder... You'll never have to worry about it again... Guaranteed!!!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blow_up.gif.f2a780e8b12ae09e264cb01720b8dca2.gif

you guys are all on crack.

drive your car till its bout empty. drop the tank, should be a few freakin bolts. get some rough sandpaper and grind around the hole a bit. get the JB weld, and a small piece of aluminum [sand the aluminum up too] and put a healthy amount of JB weld around the hole, and put the aluminum on it. then sand the top down, and put more jbweld on it and your done.

you all are making it seem like its a 5 inch ****ing tear in the take. its a ****ing PINHOLE. prolly as bit as the letter "o" on your screen.

so stop being a bunch of *****es. gas is not a magical substance that will permiate thru that tiny PATCHED hole. just stop drilling into your tank for chris'sake.

thanks req thats what ill try first, yeah its one screw hole, 2 at the most. I was hoping there was no need to buy a whole new tank

Im with req on this one. its not a big deal at all. just about anyone could do this. trust me i have droped plenty of gas tanks and even made a fuel cell. its not rocket science. Just drop it patch it and put it back up. jb weld will work great just make sure to rough up the surface so it adhears better.
