Downfiring;Porting Specifics

I just picked up an extended cab compact truck. I have been reading a lot about downfiring substage, but I still have questions about a few specifics. If I downfire a sub, is there a more exact calculation depending on cone area/excursion, or is the 2.5"-3" clearance below the speaker good for about everything? Should the area under the driver be blocked off on 3 sides, or should the corners of the box just have legs to suspend the enclosure? If it should be blocked on 3 sides, would it be best to aim it toward the rear? If the enclosure is vented, should the vent be aiming down as well?

I believe you just treat it as a bandpass and go on with your bidness.

no you dont lol

3" is plenty usaully, doesnt matter if the sides are closed in but if they are have the opening in the front, doesnt really matter either if the port is facing down or not either, I would probably vent it to the side or front though, dont want to impede airflow
