down in the well....

I have a question...and i guess this is for f-body owners...but anyone with some kinda hatchback can help too i guess. but camaro hatches are different than others. the hatch is like a well. I work at best buy and the veteran mobile installer(about 40ish..experience...about 5 years) said that my subs would be louder if i made them fire downward into the hatch...as in...vertically toward the fuel tank. i have NEVER heard of this before. but i figure...he has all this experience...there HAS TO be something to this. I tried to google this up but couldnt find anything. any ideas? is he crazy?

BTW...the setup is 2 12's in a sealed box. Type Rs

What year Camero? I had a '82 and I had a box that set down in the well. Ran 2 12's. One time I was waiting for my new subs and borrowed a friends single 12 in a box. The box already had a wedge shape to it and it set perfectly down-firing into the well. I was very very surprised. I could tell very little difference between that single 12 down-firing and my 2 12's firing up. I set the box right in the middle and it left about a ft or a little less between the floor and the sub. And had about a 6-8 inch gap on each side. If that makes sense.

The loudest for me in my firebird was to have the box on the area above the gastank, and have the subs facing up and the port facing back on the passenger side.

What???? you have a port??!? where did you find that? i have scoured the net for that. and Rattlebrain, my car is a 94, and i see what you're saying. But the overall opinion is is that its not a good idea? i just dont understand how that would aid in making it louder...

A good friend of mine ran a 99 TA. He had 3 MTX 7000 10s sealed in .33 cubes each. They fired into the well. He had much less hatch rattle than facing up. They played deep and loud. Good way to go IMO.

we did one 10" ported in my friends 00 ***** am and it will knock your socks off. made his old two 12" sealed setup sound like garbage.
