Does doubling amplifier output increase the bass from subs and also eliminate distortion?

(Yes assuming your speakers can handle the doubling of power, and is within RMS wattage for the subs).

Let say I am running two re 12xxx Subwoofers, feeding them 800watts per sub, but each sub can handle 1600W RMS and 4800 peak, if I strap another 800watts or so, (each sub getting 1600W) will I get more powerful bass, but less distortion since lower volume achieves louder sound (thus eliminating some distortion coming from the headunit itself?)

Is this true?

Does it work like this?
