Door Pod Vs. IB Mounted Speaker

I just read some pretty good write-ups on door pods. It doesn't look to be too hard of a task, something I could do without many difficulties. So, this brings up an interesting debate for me. I don't have much room in my doors for some speakers. I have only about 2.5" from the door skin to where it would hit the window. I would make a baffle to mount it on, spacing it from the window... BUT.... The door panel is basically only and inch, if that, from where the speaker mounts. This leaves me with two options; door pod, or do the spacer and restyle the door panel some. This raises a couple questions for me:

What are the pros and cons of a door pod?

What are the pros and cons of a speaker mounted IB?

What would you do if it were yours?

Hopefully you guys can help me out. Thanks! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsupwink.gif.129404938effda6ad9cca39e7f4b58a3.gif

As I've heard, most car audio companies designed there drivers to be mounted IB since the vast majority is just going to throw them in stock locations and be done. When I was considering kickpods for my Acura, instead of determining whether or not my MB Quart mid was suited for a sealed environment, I simply bought a Dayton 7" midbass driver thats suited for a sealed environment. Not to mention it sounds better //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

the specs of teh speaker come in to play when choseing between sealed on ib..
Oh, well I guess it would help if I told you which speaker I would be using. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Crystal SSCS 6, with about 200 wrms. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

yes, deaden the door well and use a mdf ring and add non-hardening modeling clay.

Proper door pods are difficult. You need to get the proper airspace, which is usually ALOT. Then it has to be totally sealed, and free of resonance. All in all, it's a hard task, which is why most dont' attempt it.
