for my new project i have an orion 2500D coming and i was looking for new subs. i was really thinking about an 18" xxx but i keep thinking that with the space that would take up, i could fit 2 15's back there. i kinda liked the thought of the one big bahemith in the back, but would say 2 15" sx's be noticeably louder then the single 18" xxx? the sx's are kinda out of my budget after i pay for the special voice coil configuration. i listen to all rap so the sub wouldn't have to have spectacular sq. i listen to my current setup in a 39 hz. tuned box and think they have amazing sq. any other subs i should look into? they need to be dual 4. i was also thinking about kicker l7's. do they really have piss poor sq or is it just bad install?

if i was only gonna feed each sub 850 watts then i would've never have bought the orion and just keep my tantrum.

my main goal is spl. i want like tear your nuts apart loud, but still sound clear. the only reason i haven't decided to go with the 18 is because of the box size. room is not an issue, but i could fit 2 15's in the same box as 1 18.

Sx's will defintly be louder than the 18 because of cone area and driver displacement. You may want to look into the new orion H2's, ive heard they can do some damage. Maybe you could pick up some used shockers, those are definitly SPL monsters. may favorites have always been the DD's but they come with that hefty price tag!!

Driver displacement? XXX's have considerably more displacement potential than SX's. I wont get into the same old arguement about peaking louder versus average output over a banwidth, but I will say for playing music either setup would be pretty close in output, depending on the installs of course.

Will the XXX have more when comparing 2 15 Sx's total displacemtn compared to one 18 xxx?

id personally go with the 18"xxx. its got more linear displacement than the sx's, but the sx's have more cone area of course. in the right box the xxx would be extremely loud. but then again so would the sx's.

the 18 xxx would cost $465 shipped and the 2 sx's would be $630 shipped, including the voice coil upgrade. so am i really gonna notice that much more of a difference in spl to justify spending almost $200 more on the sx's? and would the xxx be alright with 2500 watts rms daily?

i called re and asked them for a price and they didn't mention anything about not having one. i'm really starting to lean towards dual 15's. any other 15" suggestions? i want spl but i don't want it to sound like a giant *** farting through a pvc pipe.

i think i've decided on 2 15" sx's. for the box, i planned it to be about 7.5 cubes after all displacement, tuned to 35 hz. with 135 sq. in. of port area. hows that sound? and can someone please check my dimensions? and please do not post i'll make some plans for this price.

internal- 38.5" wide, 22.5" tall, 20" deep

port- 6" wide, 22.5" tall, 27" deep
