Don't know what this is called, sound staging?

Ok, I am running my current system that is in my signature... The problem is, it seems like there is a ton of high, and a ton of low from the subs, but it doesn't sound like I have any mids at all... My deck has only 3 EQ presets and they sound terrible... and the only other controls are bass -6 to +6 and treble -6 to +6... could I get some better midrange through an external equalizer? I have looked at components, but dont know how i would install them in my car seeing as i cant find any kick panels made for my car... thanks for looking

btw, my car is a 96 beretta Z26

For components, you could always have a shop install them. The mid range speaker would go in the stock location, and the shop would be able to cut out a hole in the door near the mid range to flush mount the tweeter. I don't imagine that it'd run you more than $75-85.

I would definitely be interested, but not sure if I would have the ability to do it. How difficult would it be? And what is generally involved?

ok....let me list the materials that you'd need.......

some fiberglass mat and/or cloth

fleece (sweatshirt materi)

bondo or somthing similar(body filler)

fiberglass resin

mdf (for the rings that the speakers mount to)

paint brush

latex gloves

portable sander*

router*

and time

aluminum foil (the quick release type would be great)

masking tape

dowel rods or something similar

hot glue gun/hot glue

carpet/vinyl/paint (your preference)

staple gun

* = not a requirement

basicly you'd need to lay down the aluminum foil over all the area's youd be glassing......and tape it down.....

you'll need to mix up a batch of the fiberglass resin

then start w/ probably 4"x4" strips of the fiberglass cloth and apply the resin to it w/ the brush....make sure its throughly soaked and continute to do so until you have a full layer done

let it dry till it is good and hard (generaly 1-2hrs) it may take shorter/longer if the resin/hardener was mixed either to lightly or heavyly

then add a layer of fiberglass mat using the same technique as above

let it dry

repeat untill you have 1/8-1/4" buildup or more depending on your preference....

once you have the back made....you'll need to create some rings for your speakers to mount to.....once you make them....use a router if u have one to make indention the same depth as the speakers (for flush mounting)

once you have them made use the dowel rods and hot glue them to the back of the rings....your using them to hold the rings in place so u can test mount the speakers and tweets....once you verify the best sound (again based upon your preference) remove the speakers and hot glue the other side of the dowel rods to the fiberglass mold u have in your car...(u can remove everything from your car now

now you'll need the fleece.....stretch it over the rings and hot glue it to the back of the mold....make sure the fleece is as tight as you can get it....it'll make things easier in the future (less sanding)staple the fleece to the rings

apply some resin to the fleece making sure to apply enough for it to soak thorughly into the fleece... then add some fiberglass mat/cloth just like above....dont apply the resin or anything to the are where the holes on the rings are at.....

after all that dries.....use the body filler to go in and fill in any pinholes or anything that doesnt look smooth or nice...you can also use the filler make everything look exactly how you want....depending on what type of body filler u use....i belive you could ad some resin to it to make it a bit more solid.....

next comes the sanding.....basicly start sanding the thing till its nice and smooth....start w/ some lower grit sand paper untill you get to a higher grit......when everything is nice and smooth you have your choice of what to cover everything w/

you can paint it, carpet, or vinyl (not recomended for the beginner)....any more questions??? we can post some step by step info if you'd like

Thanks for clearing that up, I will check it out when I get home.

Are your fronts off of deck or amplifier....if they are off of your h/u that could also be your prob....25w of unclean h/u power could be the prob....a nice amp would clean those up quite a bit....and kicks will make a world of difference
