Dogs

We love out dogs to. The rotty is very smart but sheds. The Pitts are just as smart shedding isn't bad. Very strong agile and loves kids very good protectors and strong as crazy not victious at all but very intimidating to others

Get a Pomeranian Husky mix. Tell everyone it was the runt wolf. Your street credit will go up. Not to mention, instant panty dropper with the ladies.

We had a Great Dane for a while. It got aggressive a couple times with my 7 yr. old daughter and we got rid of him. I don't know why... I think he saw her more as a litter mate than his boss because of his size and we couldn't train it out of him. He was by the far the easiest dog I've ever had to train. Shit in the house once when he was a pup. Left him to roam around the house when we weren't there and never chewed anything. Taught him every trick i could think of. Really miss him! Once my daughter is older I'm going to try another one.

I have a Carver Red nose pit, Champion Presa Canirio and a Pug!

Pugs are great smaller breed dogs. Loyal, Protective, don't really shed. I would recommend a pug to anyone looking for a smaller breed.

I love all my pups but the big protection/working breeds require special training and care and unfortunately breed specific legislation and people's preconceived misconceptions can limit being able to keep these breeds in certain community's/ living situations. Please keep this in mind if looking at one of the bigger working dog breeds.

My buddy had to relocate recently and he has good money and great credit but also has two 110lb Razors Edge Blues and he was discriminated against 4 separate times when looking for a place simply due to the landlords rental insurance rider specifically prohibiting pit's on the rental property.

Good luck on you hunt for a new companion!

I would consider a Pitt, but there are a lot of city ordnances against them - I really don't want to deal with that kind of stuff.

You don't need the responsibility of a dog while you're in college bro.
I don't see it as a huge responsibility to take on; of course you're going to put in time and money for training, feeding, and just generally making it a happy dog, but hey - if I stick with a Criminal Justice degree, it's not like I'll be doing any actual schoolwork. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I've never paid for a dog
Slo_ride...Like you, I have never paid for a dog.

I always got dogs from a friend's pups or from a friend of the family. I am from a small town, so everyone pretty much knew everyone.

Growing up, we always had 'yard dogs'. These dogs doubled as hunting dogs.

Usually Labs and Retrievers were our 'yard dogs'. Sometimes Catahoula Curs (note that I actually grew up in CATAHOULA PARISH LOUISIANA) are the best all-around hunting dogs.

A good Catahoula Leopard Cur is hard to beat as a 'family/hunting dog'.

I always loved having larger dogs. Mainly for hunting and tracking....as well as the security. But if you raise a dog right, it will be calm and playful w/ children.

Hell, I have pics I can post of 8yr old Labs w/ 4yr old kids playing w/ them. The kids are rolling all over the dogs while they pretend to sleep...then they just play w/ the kids tenderly.

Its all in how you raise an animal...and the child.

(you have to watch out w/ the Curs though, 8-10yrs+, they tend to loose their hearing w/ age...you don't want a child 'sneeking up on them')

But, I have to say...if I had my pick for a dog in my current living arrangement (apartment w/ small back yard).

I would have to take a Jack Russel. Mainly because I want to get myself a squirrel dog.

EDIT.

.

.

OK..so I replied to my own post.

But I Googled "Catahoula Cur" and found out that (thru wiki) one of the LINES of the Catahoula Cur trace right back to exact area I grew up in!!!

Sandy Lake, Louisiana....AKA, just north of Jonesville, La.

We still call this area Sandy Lake Community.
