does weather effect performance?

ok ive realized the colder it is outside, it seems to effect my stereos output. i dont have my subs hooked up ATM, but my comps seemed to be about 50% quieter tonight. it wasabout 50degrees. ive noticed it lowers the output on subwoofers, but never noticed it lower output on a component set. so, like a car in cold weather, it has to warm up before u get real performance?

iv'e noticed this too, like when it's cold in the morning my subs arnt as loud, but about like 30 minutes of play time they seem to loosen up and get louder

Also, on topic (god **** I'm used to posting in the lounge), I typically "hear" my subs as tighter when its cold in my past setups.

Could the subjectivity of the difference mean the impact is based on the ear's response to the cold rather than the subs?

Yes...theoretically The colder it is the louder you should be.

Like was said above. Colder air is denser and sound waves travel easier through denser media. Also not to mention cooler voice coils are happy voice coils. Low temp. can keep impedance down and keep your amplifiers cool.

You are hearing whats referred to as Psychocoustics. Or the phenomenon of "thinking" something is louder or quieter. when it really isnt.

Barring a problem with your system. Its all in your head.

iVE also heard that the colder it is inside your box the more space your sub thinks it sees

The particulars of fiber stuffing are pretty interesting: The air inside your enclosure actually heats up as your woofer moves, making the air stiffer. (I'm absolutely serious.) When the enclosure is stuffed with fiber, the fibers wiggle, dissipating some of the heat and making the system work as though the box were larger.

sometimes i think my system sounds a little quieter than normal. usually all i need to do is plug my nose shut, and blow until my ears pop. then its loud as hell again. give it a try.

I belive its thermal dynamics. sound wvaes travel longer and faster in a heated enviornment, therefor when it is cold out your sound waves are traveling slower and shorter. Also someone above said its in your head... its not, you wouldnt have noticed it without never noticing it before unless someone told you this and then you were like "oh yea!". i have also experienced this as well.
