My current set up is a US MD-1D amp(underpowered) with 4 kicker l7 10's with a duralast gold up front grounded to zero and the stock 8 ga and in back i have d51 yellow top grounded with 4 ga and 4 ga running the whole way through. I want to get a 2000 watt sundown, but what could it get clamped at if i added another d51 and got a 130 amp alternator? Basically i want to start in advanced 1, and basic 3 class in midwest spl competitions next year and want to know what i should do to prepare. Its in a box tuned in the mid fifties that is walled off right under my window in a ford ranger. So i have no idea what to expect db wise.

im looking into a 200 amp alternator seen here-http://www.dbelectrical.com/p-5583-ford-ranger-200-amp-high-output-alternator-23l-25l-30l-40l-92-05-7750.aspx, Or would that be overkill and should i only get a 160? stock is right around 90 amps.

The better your electrical the more you are going to clamp. But you will also have to deal with box rise, and that will not change unless you do a diff box. Best way to offset box rise without doing another box, is stiffing up your electrical....

What I was asking more so does that sound like a strong electrical for my amp?

Hell you could run a 2000 watt Sundown off of stock electrical and an extra batt or two. My advice to you is buy what you can. If you can afford a few big batts, buy them. Because an aftermarket alt is only going to do so much. 2 Big batts and teh Big 3 in 0Gauge is probably going to be cheaper, and will deff out perform an aftermarket alt!

I am going to when i replace my alternator. I just talked to a guy and im thinking about adding a DEKA 9A31H with the 200 amp alternator and running the sundown 2000 to finish my system.

I was going to get the alternator, and add another battery. I think im going to add the deka to it and call it good after the big three and 200 amp alt. After that, would that be a solid electrical for around 2000-2400 watts?

Should work alright, every vehicle is going to be diff. The big 3 and a couple Dekas would work fine. You need to remember if the alt is 200 amps, that is all it is all it is replacing. Whereas the batts are more, and last till they are empty.....

wow im surprised you didnt say alt first then batts like everyone else wouldve said, im even more surprised that you even explained why, thats just something ca.com has lost over time

i agreed with you if you have the money do both. get the biggest alt you can find, get a couple of good batts and do the big 3 and you should be fine running 2000 watts. and not to make it sound like im calling you stupid but make sure you have a very good ground. one of the easiest ways to blow an amp is with bad grounding

I have my current battery(up front) grounded to the stock location of its 6? ga. and in the back I have it hooked up with a ring terminal to where my seat bolts in. I just cut the plastic bolt protector and used a file and sand paper to get to bare metal. I then have that grounded to the battery, then a wire going from the battery to the amp.opps? When i got the second amp i was going to mount it on the opposite side to the opposite seat.

yeah i have knu 0 ran right know for my first bat ground, rockford rcas, no name speaker wire, and knu flex the rest of the way. I am going to get 30 feet total of 0 ga knu flex and just take a saturday and re run 0, the big three with a new alternator, and everything else. I also am going to get 10ga speaker wire, but i find it hard to use bigger ga wiring when wiring the four subs down to 1 ohm because i only end up with 2 wires.

EDIT: I also am curious as to how hard it is to replace the existing wires involved with doing the big three. More so I am asking as to how hidden/in tight places are the existing ground to engine block wires ect.
