im thinking about going with an AudioControl EQ but not sure which one. i just realized that i might want to use an EQ to shape my components' frequencies to a nice sounding way AND AT THE SAME TIME flatten the hump in frequency response i get when going with a ported box for my 12" idMAX. i can audibly tell the difference when a certain note plays.. its LOUD and then when it hits a different note (same bass instrument), its not as loud. i think if i went with a sealed box i wouldnt have had this teeny tiny dislike about the sub response but oh well i have it now and i think an EQ will be ok to maybe cut away at the peak frequency??

Any one of the DQxx series would work, just depends on you're application at hand. If you're going to run dolby digital 5.1 I would suggest the DQS where all six output channels can be independantly adjusted. If you're just doing a stereo system then i would do DQXS or the DQX both have built in x-overs and 1/3rd octave equalization.

Do you run bass boost? I remember one song by Lacuna Coil (Cold Heritage?) that basically had this bass guitar play right around 40HZ, and when one note hit, well, hot **** it was loud in my old setup.

If you had the enclosure space you could go with a different type of enclosure..
