does sub weight matter when mounting

I see some heavy subs mounted vertical and some horizontal. The reason I ask is I remember seeing someone brace the magnet on a heavy sub before and because I am getting ready to build a box for some level 5s. The 5s have a 73-pound magnet they are 18” so they have a big frame that could flex. Total weight of these subs is about 80 pounds. So what’s up am I worrying about nothing or should they have extra support from the rear

Oh yes weight matters. Some people with big subs make supports for the magnet inside of the box.

Depends how the sub is mounted. If it's just a regular box, I'd imagine double or maybe even triple baffle would be sufficient.

If you're up to it, I would just brace the motor and take the stress off of the frame and the baffle.

double baffle and two inch screws/bolts... a brace would be ideal but more work...

I had BTL 18s mounted upside in my Expedition and no problems. Just used big thick screws.
