does silicon harm speakers?

i'm getting air leaks around where the sub is mounted and feel like silicon would help that but i heard the silicon fumes damage the subwoofer somehow. is that true or could i just use it? and if not is there anything else i can use

I have heard that the fumes can degrade foam surrounds. Never worried about it and never personally had an issue. Check Home Depot for "caulking rope" It's like a putty that comes in strings that you can stick around seems before you mount. Works great, is removeable, and is cheap enough.
