Does length Amp is from battery matter with..

Well first off let me say I am looking at some 1KW to 1.5KW RMS amps. Probably closer to 1KW though.

Anyways, I read that the further away your amp is from battery the smaller the gauge wire you should use.

So I was thinking of using 4gauge in an SUV. A Mid Sized one. So it's a good 15ft or from cargo in back to battery (I haven't actually measured, just a tired as hell guess).

So being in an SUV and having to run the power wire all the way back there. Should I get like a 2 gauge or something? Or will 4 be good enough for that wattage?

4 gauge wire is good up to 1400 watts, IF I remember right, but it never hurts to run larger wire.For instance I only have a 300 watt amp but ran 4ga wire,becaus I may upgrade the amp/subs in the future and that way, I don't have to rerun anything.

That is completely false. The longer distance increases resistance which will have a negative effect on powering your amp adequately.

4 gauge should be sufficient. Increasing to larger wire will make minimal difference in voltage loss. If you are planning a larger system in the future, however...

if you plan on upgrading, go to 2 gauge or 1/0. its better to only do it once, and save money, then to do it twice and spend more time and money

Well I'll most likely never plan on upgrading. I was originally only wanting about 300-500W sub, but ended up getting nice cheap 1000W+ Sub. I have kids so that right there is probably overdoing it.

Just didn't want to spend the extra money if I didn't need too.

Was offered an MA audio hk401sx, would that need 2gauge if I did go that route?

Or no since I would only be using around 1.2KW RMS? Also heard those are power hungry amps, so would I end up having to go to 2gauge?
