does it really matter?

Originally posted by GSteg if the pioneer puts out 50 watts RMS (not underrated nor overrated) and the profile puts out the same watts (same like pioneer), then the sound quality is no difference. a watt is a watt.

the only thing you're paying for is the crossovers, bass boost ( i find it useless), durability, name brand, etc..

i myself run a profile amp on two subs and i am very happy with it.
thd...??(total harmonic distortion)

under 1% distortion, u won't hear a difference. my profile puts out under 1% of THD. the only way you can hear something is if your ears are super duper good while listening to sinewaves. but since when do we listen to sinewaves all day long? in music, its virtually impossible to heard the harmonic distortion.

Originally posted by h2dav So why buy any of those really expensive amps when you can get a USacoustic that those the same job. I understand they don't make any super high output gear e.g. audiobahn. But for all but super high spl you have a lot of choices that may save you hundreds of dollars especialy if no one will ever see your install.
people buy expensive amps because they usually have better built quality and features. amps like arc audio, brax, helix, sifonic, etc, are built on high standards. example, the US acoustics amps have low pass crossover filters. plain simple ones. on the other hand, some arc audio amps have selectable 12db and 24db octave crossovers that you can switch with just a push of a button. not many amps will come with that kind of feature. its lik buying a kia and a honda civic. both may do their job as a commuter car, but u pay more for the civic's reliability and extra featrues.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Geez, after reading all of those post, I really don't know where to begin.

It is true that 50 watts from a Jensen is going to be the same as 50 watts from an MTX. There is no set standard that these companies use when it comes to rating their amps though. So the fact of the matter really is, "Is your amp really giving you that power." For companines like Jensen or Sony Xplode, the answer is NO!

As GSteg also said, you are getting better components usually when you buy more expensive amps (and don't forget you are also paying for the name). Where as some amps have set XO points, others can be variable. You are also paying for features too, some Zapco amps have clipping indicators, some Alpine amps has a voltage meter, etc. When was the last time you see a Jensen amp with anything like that.

Just remember, you get what you pay for. But you have to determine for yourself if it's worth the extra money or not. Nuff said.

Oh, one more thing,

Class D = Digital Amps for bluh, bluh, bluh.

WHERE THE HELL DID YOU COME UP WITH THAT?!??!?!?!?! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif

CLASS D AMPS DOESN'T MEAN THAT IT IS DIGITAL:furious:

also, some jensen are very good though. the ATS50rx is rated 25x2@4ohm at 10.5volts. carsound did a test and has gotten it to 47x2@4ohm at 14.4volts. pretty darn good if i say so my self. then again..i like jensen //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif just don't plan to run subs with jensen amps though. for mid/highs, they will perform.

Originally posted by h2dav I've never seen anyone get that full 2000watts out of those **** Audiobahns even at 15.5 volts in bench test and those **** things cost an arm and a leg.
the most i've seen was about 1900 watts RMS from an audiobahn rated at 1800x1. too bad they are kind of overpriced..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif for the money, i'd take either arc audio, brax, or helix. :p ://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/drool.gif.b5e863e893038027711d4402f340dad0.gif:
