Does box size make a big difference?

So right now my box is 3.5 cubic feet, has 2 4 inch ports, and is tuned to 34 hz. Some people have been telling me to get a box thats 4 cubic feet and has more port area. I just use this for daily driving, and would having a bigger box make it louder? And for the amount of loudness, is it even worth the hassle for making it .5 cubicfeet bigger?

bigger box = more effecient and more port area //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Could also mean that it sounds like crap and has a big peak in the response curve that will exagerate one frequency. That one frequency is where your efficiency lies and nowhere else.

A bigger box doesn't=more port area...more port area does. The larger the port area, though, the longer it has to be, further increasing the total size of the box. The need for more port area is totally dependant on the sub, the box and the power applied. T/S params would help. Without them no one can say anything with any degree of credibility.

first to get any noticable difference in sound .5 cube bigger is not going to happen

now if u was to go 2cubes bigger with the same 2 4 inch ports tuned to the same tuning freq...your low end will have more authorityt

but power handling will have to decrease some

80

3.5 cuft is fine for that sub. But yes u definatly need more area shoot for about 60sqins of port. U only have around 25sqins right now
Well is there a way I can do that without building a new box, here is a pic of my ports right now.

maybe like take out my current ports, cut a bigger whole, and get like those 6" ones?

even if you kept the ports you have, get two more 4" ports, and mount all 4 on the outside of the box, you'd have a lot more sound

there's ways of measuring t/s perimeters at home, but the equipment cost would be a little on the high side for measuring one speaker, one time

i'd say if you keep the same setup, and improve your port area, you'd be off to a great start
