Does an Amp Split its power?

Ok, im a newb to car audio and i was looking at the JL500/1. Its a mono block amp so you can hook up two subs directly to the amp right? Now my question is will each sub get 500 watts, or will the amp split its power between the two where each sub will only get 250 watts. Also some of my friends have regular mono amps where there are only one set of speaker outputs. They Have the speaker wires from each sub twisted togerther and they put them both into the speakerwire input on the amp, is that safe, and also when you wire it like that will the amp split its power between the two subs? Sorry if the post is confusing.

That's a very helpful answer...

You can hook as many subs as you want to a single channel amplifier, as long as the impedances come out right...and yes, each speaker will receive 250 watts.

It's a mono (one channel) amplifier, but you can connect 2 subwoofers directly to it.

Split the power...so 250w to each sub.

Yes, as long as the final impedance is one which the amp is stable into.

Typically people wire the subs together at the sub's terminals rather than the amplifier terminals, however.

Yes.

Sorry if the post is confusing.
I've seen worse. Waaayyyy worse.

Yeah it will split the power between the subs. It was a common myth around my hometown, that when you wired the subs together at the amp (Ex. 800x1) that the amp gave both drivers 800 watts.
it;s not a myth... it depends on the amp.

E.G. If You wire 1 4ohm load to a T3 it'll recieve 800rms.

If You then wire 2 4ohm loads (2ohm final) they'll both recieve 800wrms.

The boogeyman is a myth, not understanding ohm's laws vs. equipment capabilities is just misinformation.

or something.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

^its fine as long as you dont have any stray wires.

Thats a different situation, the original poster wasnt asking if impedence change, changed the output of the amp. Also the amp he was asking about, (JL 500/1) does not change with different input resistance. And the word myth sounds better thats why i used it.
