Does a sub care how the box is shaped??

I have a 01 GMC Sierra ext cab. The box I built is under the rear seat. It's the full width of the seat and has 1 12 that's on the drivers side and is ported on the passenger side. It's 1.94cubes net. And is tuned high at 38hz. The 12 is down firing. Does the sub treat this box as a small box since it's off centered or does it care? this sounds like a stupid question to me but it is still bugging me to know. The reason I ask is that when the box crosses my driveshaft tunnel the inside of the box is only 4". So I didn't know if that transition from side to side was effecting performance.

Mine don't seem to care. I'd assume the only time it would matter is where a port is placed in the box.

It does if it's a single chamber with one driver if it's a slot port. If you're running an aero port you're fine and given the net space I would say you are, correct?

Yes sir 4" inside diameter port. I built the box originally for a diamond d3 12". One of the voice coils crapped out on me , so now I'm running a kicker cvx and it just don't sound near as good as the diamond did. That's why I asked if the shape mattered. I thought the cvx was supposed to be a decent sub , but it's no where near what the diamond was. Im gonna send my diamond in for a recone soon.

Good idea. Box is too small for that cvx.

I figured it was. The kicker definitely don't hit the lows like the diamond, but dang it murders a double bass drum. I'm really going for more of a balanced sound but I still find myself wanting to get loud lol. If I didn't have kids riding in the backseat I'd build a real box.

You'd be surprised what cscstang and 8" subwoofers can do haha.

Shape doesn't so much matter, but if the box is a really oddball shape a proper functioning port may prove difficult or impossible.
