Dodge charger sub box input needed???

Ok I haven't read any post with my exact problem answered. I have a 2010 charger. 2 12 inch kicker L7 subs with a zx1500.1 kicker amp. Subs are wired as a 2 ohm load and amp is only 2 ohm stable.

When I first bought my subs and pre-fab ported box, port is on the side of the box. I pushed the box all the way against the rear seats with the subs facing the rear. The bass was only ok but I felt that something was lacking. So I went to a stereo shop and thru some trial and error he turned the box around so the subs face the front of the car and placed the box all the way back to the trunk Opening. The sound was 10x better and rear view mirror kept falling which it never did before. So I was happy withbit other then I could not fit anything in my trunk cause the box is right there at the opening.

So the stereo shop told me I should get a custom box made. The way it would be made is have a ported box with speakers facing the front of the car and box placed right behind my back seat. Then he would seal off the rest of the trunk so bass would not get behind the box and cancel out. Does this sound correct. Or is it better to have the box built bigger for more air space and port it thru the back seat somehow???
