Do you love time correction? Yes or no and why?

In stereo, best imaging is achieved with a 60 degree azimuth. In a vehicle, this is not possible given conventional install locations and procedures. The beauty of this physical challenge is that it can be solved electronically (and quite nicely) for a single location using EQ and TA. Of course, the problem is that anywhere other than the spot you have electronically accounted for will suffer. It's one of the real problems with stereo in a vehicle (and, to some extent, in the home).

Still, I love TA and encourage everyone to use it. Even if you don't have an HU with TA, have some fun with the balance knob. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

its "ok" but use it too much or your system needs a lot it is bad. what sounds good to the driver ends up sounding like a fooked up mess to whoever else is sitting in the car
in my alpine 9855 manual it showed different formulas to use if you wanted correction for driver, or all passengers. so im assuming that all passengers just centered everything.

dont know how it could center for everyone as it would need different settings for every posistion and distance in the car. centering from all locations via time alignment would be nearly impossible. i have time alignment but i dont even have to use it.

I have a deck that will do it, but have never used it. I believe you can only use it when going active, correct?
You can use it when going with passives. IMO it would be better if the tweets and mids are close together acting like one speaker being Time aligned.

I'd personally rather have ONE very GREAT listening position than more 'okay' ones. Quality over quantity, i guess. Also, I don't sit in the passenger seat of my own car, so I'd rather please myself, because I paid for all the equipment in my car.

Though, have the ideal speaker placement is ideal.

on , I have set mine up to use the time alignment and not the X-overs.

x2. I think TA is a great feature that many people can benefit from if they know how to implement it.

True. I'd love to hear a competition grade setup that competes in the two seat judging. Every sq oriented vehicle i've listened to or demo'd was tuned for the driver seat only.

on a side note:

Another substitute to help with center image is Seperate L/R EQ.

If your speaker locations are terrible and you dont have enough channels of alignment just tilting your head ruins all of your alignment. if you have proper speaker locations everything is easier and sounds better and more natural. back in the day they had time alignment on extremely highend gear and competitors STILL used better placement over using so much processing. i also used to think 30 band eq's were the greatest though to put messing around with the eq i have now i can shape with more control over the whole spectrum of sound by creating my own dips and peaks (narrow and broad) with a 10 band extremely adjustable parametric EQ. better speaker placement also requires less left and right differences in EQ. K.I.S.S. imo is still best and you dont have to spend hours trying to tune it to your liking. i have had systems with 27 speakers and my favorite had 6 the one i have now to the music i listen too is my second fav and it only has 5. throw in any image or staging cd you like and it is more than 80% correct without any time alignment, gain or eq settings. throw in the iasca drum track first and last smacks sound like a foot outside the vehicle and they all sound like they are at least 8" apart as it moves across the dash. the more differences you make between right and left (especially incorrectly) you are also it more possible to point out where the speakers themselves are. whole point of doing the time alignment is too make it sound like you are not in a car...and not being able to point out the speakers is a huge part of not sounding like you are in a car

Many cars are set up that way that compete in IASCA and USAC. In 2 seat format, the tonality counts for more, so you end up with a car that sounds accurate in both seats and images great for driver and ok for the passenger. You have to do a LOT more planning to get this though.

back in the day everyone ran ultimate rules and they were much more indepth about the rules. if you had a weakness it wrecked your whole score. i would post an old score sheet via scanning but its so fadded it is un readable via scan

yes, I remember ....... I am in my mid 40's. You had to do SQ, then SPL, then RTA all in a row - with absolutely NO changes to the system in between. It fell apart when electronic EQ's became popular because it was so easy to cheat that it wasn't worth policing it.
