do you lose gas mileage in winter?

car runs much harder in winter, plus you should be letting it warm up, thus using some gas, i go threw alot more in winter //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

yeah. i usually remote start it, too.

i have been getting worse gas milage lately. I thought it was because i was accelerating quicker, but this last tank i have driven extremely slow and i still drive fewer miles per tank.

cars run harder, usually starting your car for a while before driving it wastes some gas, and having the heater at full blast can have some effect too.

I was getting 300 miles with a full tank in the summer and now i get around 265.

cars run better in cold weather. due to the denser air. takes less "gas" to get up to speed.,hence why they market better gas mileage with cold air intakes.
Lies. Intake Air Temperature sensor reads the air as colder, and thus more dense, and sends more fuel to the combustion chamber, leading to better performance. As far as mileage gains, they're minimal at best and only produce such gains by increasing the efficiency of the intake system by reducing restriction.

In a nutshell, IAT sends more fuel to burn in the cold.

Also, when your car starts in the cold, it goes into a warmup mode where the idle kicks up and it runs a bit rich to heat the motor up faster. I get horrible mileage in the winter because of my beastly cooling system keeping the car in warmup mode.

Also, if you start DRIVING ur car after it has cooled down (cold engine start) - the car has to dump alot more gas into it than if it was already closer to operating temperature.

I see alot of people do this, they just start their car in the morning, everythings cold - and they just speed off, white exhaust flaring and all. Its funny because those are the people who end up paying more down the road in gas AND possible engine repair.

I recommend everyone lets their cars get to operating temperature before driving in the winter. :]
