I have no interest in disproving the bible. I have more interest in proving the things that actually happened, and disproving the things that were added or scewed by the corrupt in order to preserve their status in the world. I can't tell you how much I would like to get my hands on some of the lost books of the bible. I think if we had the entire thing, including the parts where the writers change their minds, people would realize that faith or religion or whatever is supposed to be a far more active undertaking. Simply relying on the same old passages to guide your life will kill any progress we are capable of.
And just to clarify, I do believe in Jesus. I just don't believe in him as a Messiah. If you look at the other major religions, they all have very prominant prophetic figures. If anything, I believe that Jesus was a prophet who attempted to inspire the masses through his martyrdom. I think that, if God, Satan, Heaven, and Hell all exist, it is up to the people to prove themselves by living good lives and bettering the world in some way. In a world full of so many choices, I have a hard time believing that believing in God and Jesus and saying "I'm sorry" before you kick it is enough.
There was a story in one of the Ancient Egyptian religions that I really liked (and no, I didn't steal this from The Bucket List). When you reached the gates of heaven, you were asked "Did your life bring you joy? Did your life bring joy to others?" If you could answer yes to both questions, you got in. I really think that should be enough.
