most likely yes becuz that would make the cabin space in the van very small. 2 18"s moving air in a small space would be pretty loud with the right port tuning(size), wall, and a good size amount of power.

i'm thinking 4000+ on each sub. could be a costy project but rewarding.

if you make your wall enclosure too big for the recommended size it will actually just lose sound at an alarming rate, but as marshall said the smaller the cabin size the better for SPL, so you could make a wall and make some appropriately sized boxes with it and you would have the best possible spl that way. Power is not so much a factor though once you get past 150db, but is more about the number of subs you've got. To increase 1db when you are over 150 you need to effectively double the power you are currently running to your subs. by adding another subwoofer however, you can see an increase of 3 - 14db.

I just upgraded my system twice, i'd had 2 12" hcca's running on a 1001BD rockford amp and it was very loud, then upgraded to the hcca 2100 amp running 2300wattsRMS and it only increased 1.6db's, from 151.2 to 152.8 and now I just added to more 12" hcca's and i'm hitting 164.8 still running the same hcca2100 to all 4 subs.
