Do volts matter?

On a headunit, for example my Headunit is 4 volts my friend has a 2 volt, if we set up the same amp and sub to both of the headunit will it make a difference?

The reason I'm asking is because I read that the more the volts the better sound will the amp recieved and trow to the sub's

The higher your pre-out voltage, the lower you have to turn up the gain on the amp. SQ =/= voltage
