i have a kx400.1, running 2 comps ported. i hear turning the SSF works much better with ported boxes, decreasing the risk of the subs being damaged by not playing lower than normal frequencies (29hz and below or something) so, should i turn my SSF on? other than helping the subs to not over work themselves, what other factors do the SSF's help with? does it lower/raise the bass output at all?

ok thanks. wasnt sure. i had a little booboo the other day. had my bass level hooked up, with the SSF on. my left sub blew. the audio shop gave me a brand new box and 2 brand new 12's since it happened a day after i bought them. right now i have the bass level disconneted, and the ssf off. was afraid i was going to blow them again. i also had my gains way to high by mistake. i didnt notice until after the sub blue that my bass boost on my amp was past half way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif :( argh. right now its at 2db boost out of 15 which, actually sounds alot better than it did with it at 12.

lol. yea my bad. guess i was wrong. you aint to bad //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif the bass boost will be lowered a tad bit more, and ill raise the gain up lil bit, a VERY lil bit,. try to get some of the distortion out. i can hear it distoring a tad.. or it could be all the nasty vibrattions. hard to tell the difference right now.

while were on the subject, im sure you know/maybe used a kicker kx400.1 amp? it has an external bass knob hook up. is it a bass boost, or bass level (volume control for the subs) should i leave it unhooked?

I hate bass knobs and never use them. Then again, I have an Alpine HU... where the subwoofer level is one touch away...

Kicker's should be the gain level, but I've never paid attention b/c I don't use them.

Yup. Bass boost adds distortion.
But don't forget! I just put people down and never help them!

yea i just read my kicker manual for the amp. its just a level control. im looking into a new HU with a subwoofer control, does the pioneer p4800MP have this function?

Yes.

It's harder to get to though, almost not worth it unless you listen to drastically different styles of music.

One with LOADS of bass... and one with little at all.

will do. sick of my HU. its the 189.00 Dual HU. for its price youd think it would have so many more functions.. but **** its a POS... the black/silver one witht he fold down face. it was an impulse buy from walmart, i was in dire need of something ASAP -- wish i would have waited a day or two and got me something else.
