do sq subs "bump"?

You can make a sub do a lot of different things simply by changing the install...

"Bump" is a meaningless term as everybody's definition of what's loud varies. SQ-oriented drivers can get loud, but if you're going for SQ, the whole point is not to have it the subbass be overbearing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

A high tuning and high crossover point will exaggerate subbass with pretty much any woofer.

i see what you mean, my definition of loud is being able to feel and hear the bass clearly and feel pounding in my chest but not loud enough to annoy anyone on the steet. I'm going to use a 1^3 SEAlED enclosure and am not competing. All i want is great lowend with some decent out put, nothing too big, basically loud but still being able to hear the music.

IMO, a large ported enclosure will work better for that application. Larger frequency bandwidth at lower starting volume is what I've heard in my experience with them.

Sounds like you're on the right track...

A good friend of mine has a 15" Brahma MKII in a 3cF sealed enclosure, and he can tune the Xovers and EQ to where it'll kick you in the nuts...but can blend it very nicely with the front stage when needed.

Building a box slightly above a "traditional" alignment (.707 Qtc) will help to give you that chest-pounding sensation. Just don't go too small.

alright thanks, could a sq driver like the diyma atleast hit around 125 -130 db's ?

With a good install- sure. Don't see much point myself. Y'know 110dB is front stage at a rock concert, right? How much louder is necessary than that? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blackeye.gif.66a1670f5aaf7f406e783a63e3387dc5.gif

C'mon, you know that's A-weighted //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

To answer his question though, sure. A single sealed 12" shouldn't have any problem reaching 125dB, even in a rolling cave like mine...

so now i'm going back and forth between the two following setups

sundown audio 1500

2 si bm's (12")

2 fiberglass enclosures

or

jbl px300.4

1 12" diyma

fiberglass enclosure

so basically the second set up is about $400 cheaper

would there be any difference in output and impact during normal listening levels?

and which would you take?

To put it in perspective, Loyd, our local sub testing machine, achieved these numbers in a sealed box with a single 8 inch driver during his Great 8 Challenge.

top 5 MAX SPL 200 watt

1. W7 - 125.4

2. IDv3 - 123.6

3. RE - 123.0

4. Koda - 122.4

5. CMP - 121.9

Top 5 Average SPL 200 watt

1. W7 = 120.72

2. ID 8 = 119.76

3. RE = 118.47

4. True Bass = 118.0

5. Koda = 117.62

As stated earlier by JimJ, with a 12 inch sub running of the power levels you are talking about you will be just fine.

With woofers of the same size, similar quality, and similar installs, the 2 woofer setup will almost always win over the single woofer setup. You want impact, the dual BM setup is the way to go. Personally, I'm all for the cheaper direction, but then I'm cheap. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/greedy.gif.5a53e6246569d7ab79867170f3b06629.gif
