Do people on CA not like Critical Mass? Why?

I can understand you point, basically $800 is out of the range of what you figure any sub is worth. but what about the ss line and the comps, guys pay 750-1500 all day on morel, dyna, rainbow ... but you never hear c-mass, is it again a situation of not being able to hear them, because I purchased my Rainbow Profi, vans without hearing them, (which worked out fine thankfully) but it dosent seem to apply to cmass
Those morel, dynaudios aren't often up for sale here and when they are not everyone hops on them, just those that "know" about them. Rainbows have somewhat become a boner mainly because of the midbass that the SLC's provide, I'm sure alot of these spl heads love them because they have so much punch to them.

The market here vs what critical mass produces is much different. They have innovative designs in alot of their items, but are not a mass marketing company.

They are too expensive for anyone on here to buy. Most of the forum boners are cheap(ish) products that perform really well. We all know that you don't have to spend a bunch of money to get amazing results, so why should we? I can get two of the new Mags and an amp to power them for the price of one of your UL12s. It's just not very reasonable.

Honestly its the high price. Their high end stuff is super nice but even $800 dollars for a sub is too much for me to rationalize. No matter how good it sounds it will never sound like $800 and I would forever have buyers remorse every time I turned on my system. I just have my limits. I can buy something that sounds excellent for $200-$300 and your sub sounds slightly better for $600-$1000 more?

There is a place near me that sells some of the best tasting steaks I've ever had. But they run about $100 a person - before drinks. Now I can get a really **** good steak at Outback for about 20 bucks. Is the $100 dollar steak better? Maybe, slightly, but it's hard to tell because I can't believe I just dropped $100 dollars to eat some meat and I would have been perfectly happy with the $20 steak from Outback.

Not much is known about C-Mass to be honest.

Say, a similarly priced driver, although there are not many, say a DD 9900 series, both priced at 600 used.

People, on this forum at least would choose the DD over the C-Mass. DD has a better rep on here because of it's proven quality and extensive product line. All about name recognition, and C-Mass just doesn't have it on this forum.

This is assuming you could find a driver at the same price of a C-Mass. Most great drivers are priced well below the UL12, so consumers are obviously going to choose a driver with similar performance and a 1/4 of the price.

I understand your point, you could also compair it to a mustang gt, 0-60 in 5.5-6 seconds, for 30k or so, then you can get a ferarri for with the same specs for 90-100k. does a home audio system that has $10000 towers sound that much better than my home system?

At the end of the day it is all were you place value, what is the limit for you. I think in the progression of life youstart out by saying why pay $300 for a 12" dd sub when I can get an mtx 12 for $120. then you progress to the DD and say whay pay 600 for an idmax ... until you find your limit. The limit is subjective it think, it is what sounds good enough for you for the money you are willing to spend. If that $100 steak tastes a little better, it is worth the extra money, as long as you value the better taste. What make a Rolex presidential worth $15k does it do any more than my Tissot? nope. but it is worth more.

This is all for conversation sake;)
