Do I really need an amp?

Have 2 sets of Polk DB571 speakers I am going to install eventually. My DNX-5120 head unit puts out 50x4 watts. Will having my Kenwood KAC-X40 amp putting out 70x4 watts sounds that much better?

Big difference in 50x4 max and 70x4 RMS

In all reality, the deck will put out about 15w RMS per channel, whereas the amp will do 70w RMS.

You tell me.

He's right. 70 Watts x 4 actually means 20Wx4 RMS, if even that.

The Kenwood Nav unit claims 22x4 rms, but it's not cea compliant, so 15 sounds about right.

yes, an amp will make your speakers sound about 50x better lol. If you are really that concerned, buy a used amp, hook it up and if you don't like the sound difference then just use the deck and resell the amp and you will only loose like $15 for shipping.... not a bad deal at all if you ask me.
