DLS A5 amplifier? How nice? front stage + sub amplifier?

I have been looking into this amplifier, and it mentions that it is 3 channels. Is it the front stage + a sub channel?

How much power can I expect out of this amp? How does DLS's "ultimate A" line of amplifiers compare to Soundstreams Van Gogh line?

Does this amplifier do 2 x 100 @ 2ohms + 1 x 500 @ 2ohms? or 2 x 100 @ 2ohms or 1 x 500 @ 2ohms?

If it does both at the same time, its quite a power house.

DLS amps are super sweet and super clean. i believe Scott Buwalda uses DLS ultimate amps in his competition cars. i believe the amp you are looking at is the A5. are the ology mids 4 or 8 ohms? lets say they are 8 ohm mids and you going to pair them up with LPG tweets. if you use that to run the whole frontstage then getting roughly 22.5 watts to both the tweets and the mids. 22.5 watts to the tweets is fine, tweeter dont need much power to sing. but 22.5 watts on the mids might be a problem, might lose some midbass.

my suggestion is get that lovely amp and power the sub and tweets. and get a nice small 2 channel amp to power the mids and go active. go ACTIVE!! PM Foxpro5 i think, i think he has the A5 himself.

I've never done an active setup and I would have no idea even where to begin. I have not purchased my headunit yet, (seriously considering the KDC X889). How hard are they to get to sound as nice as ologys passive setups?

Would it be wiser to just select some Soundstream Van Gogh VGA600.2 and VGA800.2 amplifiers over the single DLS A5 setup?

I know the LPG tweeter is 8 ohms. What would 2 8ohm speakers wire down to (2 4ohm subwoofers wire down to 1ohm, right? so the 2 4ohm speakers should wire to 1 ohm? and 2 8ohm speakers should wire down to 2ohms?)

I have the A5. It is one of the best amps I've owned bar none. Plenty of power and they are absolutely gorgeous too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif ...it's a shame it's under my seat right now. When I first got it, I just sat and admired her for a while...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

Here is a German test report on it from their website: http://www.dlsamerica.com/Test%20reports/A5autohifi2.jpg

The dealer I bought mine from said that the sub channel will throw down 1K at 1 ohm if it gets the voltage. I have run it at 1 ohm recently and it **** near murdered my sub. I'm a pretty strict sq guy and will be running it a 2 ohms where it still performs like a champ //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

You can expect to get rated power out of it and then some. I will be using the fronts to power my tweets. I have the fronts on my midrange drivers (4 ohm) and they sound great.

Go to DLS's website and see if there is a dealer in your area. If not, PM me and I will refer you to the dealer I bought mine from. I do not have a dealer in my area and got a great deal on mine shipped right to my door.

Very nice price/performance ratio on the A5...especially since you get a two channel plus a pretty powerful sub channel in a moderately sized footprint!!

Read the test report bro! It is rated at 2 x 50 @ 4 ohms. I have no idea what my amp puts out because I have no ability to measure it. You can expect at least 65 watts per channel on the fronts at 13.8v.

I didnt get much from that other than numbers that I already know from searching and looking at DLS's website (not many people have experience/seen these ultimate amps...Ive searched on elitecaraudio, carstereos.org, sounddomain, and here)

Didnt your amplifier come with a birthsheet, sorry if I wasnt specific. That is what I was curious of.

No birthsheet. I highly doubt that you will find anything "bad" about the A5 or any DLS products for that matter. As stated by kenny, Scott B used DLS equipment to win multiple world championships! That speaks for itself.

What are your goals? Budget? Do you have room in your car for 3-4 amps? I don't, so that is one of the reasons for choosing the A5. I don't need slammin bass, so a tight and accurate sub plus 500+ watts of real world power from the A5 is music to my ears.

I am also on a budget, but I do not buy junk. If you have room in your car for both a two channel that will do 85 watts x 2 plus a class A/B mono sub amp that will do 350 - 850 watts depending on impedence they hey, happy shopping. If you want to combine the best of both world PLUS get Burr Brown chips, SSF, HPF, LPF, and a cooling fan port, then buy an A5 already!!!!!!!!

I'd like to stay under $1500, although as its going I think a more reasonable goal would be

My goal is an SQL system, this will be a daily driver. I have a LOT of room in my trunk, but I think a single amplifier would look nicer and be easier on my alternator.
