Distorted Chorus On Alpine Speakers

Hello! I have 6.5 Alpine component type-r's in the front, and Alpine type-r 6x9's in the rear of my car. They all have a high pass filter set to about 80hz. ALL powered by a Rockford Fosgate Punch p400.4. Running an Alpine CDA-117 as the head unit. On the verses where the sound isn't as full, the quality is amazing, but on the chorus it starts to distort. One song that you can really tell it on is Peace Up/ Index Down by Gym Class Heroes. I'm getting baffles for the speakers soon, but I don't think that will help with the distortion. Any Ideas? Are the settings on the head unit off? Please help ). I will soon be getting two 15" type-r's pushing 1000 watts rms each as well, one of the ones I have in now are blown. Thanks for any input. 2004 Chrysler Sebring Sedan LX

P.S. Is this out of phase?

note that if the 6x9's are in the rear deck, and you have subs in the trunk - the subs are distorting your 6x9's.

speaker performance is 90% installation. baffles are very important - as is an airtight seal between the front of the speaker and the back of the speaker. without it - you get phase interference. make sure the door speakers are properly sealed against both the metal door and the plastic door panel (factory grille). use weatherstripping foam (closed cell rubber) to create a seal (adjust thickness as necessary).

improper gain settings will cause distortion. also, i think Rockford amps have audible distortion as-is.

the only way the HPF would be an issue is if you have your bass level jacked up. those speakers should play full range without issues.

move your fader to the front and see if the distortion remains (turning off rear 6x9's).

note that you don't need rear speakers. they just add distortion, time arrivals, and take away from the sound stage.

Thanks for the input! The highpass solution helped a little bit. But I think keep_hope_alive hit the nail on the head. Cause I have been hearing a phase like distortion as well. So do you have rear speakers in your car? I though about taking my 400 watt Alpine amp to power the front components cause I'm getting an MRP-M2000 for my new subs. Would you recommend doing so? I would be pushing about 200 rms each but I could always turn the gain way down on that. So the rear speakers would be fosgate powered but not the front.
