I've had direct for 4 years and they have been pretty descent. But I don't watch a ton of sports channels other than golf channel or espn which dish has ( I'm looking at the 250 channel package. ) also direct seems to be cheaper in general and also is more geared to movies instead of sports. Another thing that caught my eye was they will give you 3 hd receivers at no extra charge.

I know there might be fine print I'm missing but what do you guys think about the comparison. Pros/cons, customer service etc.

Where I live these are my only 2 options so please no more suggestions lol. ***** livin in the boonies sometimes.

If i remember right the dish network has more hd channels. We have it at my house i like it. Never had direct though so i dont know how much different it is.

i swap units every other year or so the two always have promotional sign on packages...i always get the fanciest units they have at the time...so ill end up with lots of free movie chs...at first ....at the end of the contract ill sell the units and dishs on ebay after the new system is hooked up........with that monies usually gives me at least 6 months of free programming on the previous vendor...be careful with dish though somehow i got rooked in a lease program and they wanted their stuff back and will charge you the freight to send it back.... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

cable > satellite
Have you ever had satellite? I get 3x the channels for the same price my local cable company was charging me...plus DVR, plus the ability to set things to record from ANYWHERE (using a computer, my ipad, or my droid), plus I can watch recorded shows from any room in the house.

Yeah, cable rocks....

Yes I've used satellite. And my cable company can do all that as well, while also giving me a 15mbps internet connection //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif'

But my HD TV got stolen, so I canceled the cable part. Still got the internet though.

I like how dish is setup better u don't have to go to the guide to switch channels and dish set up is better channels are in the right spots and seem to flow better. My dad has direct tv if you have to see your fav NFL team play every week then get direct for Sunday ticket. But dish has the blockbuster movie pass but being that you can't get cable, your internet will not be fast enough to do on demand. But I say dish even though at&t owns both companies anyways

Just call up Direct TV & tell them you are going to switch to dish unless they upgrade your equipment & channel package. You can get new hd dvr's & they'll at least match Dish's price.
