Disappointed with out of W3...

off topic. driving down the highway tonight and a huge piece of particle board shoots from underneath a RV and cracks my bumper and bends my licence plate to hell.

I was so mad I couldn't even get mad.

2.5 cubes tuned to 35hz with 30square inch portwith the power u have but they can take 600watts

Are you willing to make a box design(I'm sure for a fee of some sort) with the specs. that you noted above? I have all the tools to build a box but I'm terrible at math.

I know you can't have your cake and eat it too but will it still be somewhat flat?

Thanks.

I did some adjustments and found out the on certain songs if I adjust the hz db level it sounds great.
I think I'm actually looking for the ported sound. Is it possible to get a little more resonance without loosing to much flat responce?
What you're looking for is more low end extension. People think sealed enclosures rule LFE because of cabin gain but cabin gain is never linear/increasing as you go lower infrequency and many times it will leave you with a sealed box that can play from 40hz and up (this is very sub dependent) and that is considered "excellent" sounding by people who don't want to believe there is musical content down to and below 30hz.

If you want sealed box aggression and tight response but you also want a flat and smooth response curve with plenty of low frequency extension, I may have the enclosure for you. It is a little large but I think it will work for your sub, vehicle, and listening preferences. Send me a PM and I'll get you the plans if they fit.

Dimensions: 35.75" wide by 15.75" deep by 15.5" tall.

The W3 is a good driver but like all JL audio subs (with exception to the W7), if you put them in their recommended sealed box, more than likely you will end up with a sub setup that performs very well in the upper bass and blends well with midbass but the very bottom end just lacks. I have yet to hear a sealed JL setup that can play flat to 30hz besides a couple W7s I've seen but they were more bloated in the 30-40hz region while sealed.

And end thread there, lol!

The reason the W7 is bloated in the 30-40 hz region is that the JL spec enclosure is too small. That's also the reason that most of the JL subs don't get really low in the spec enclosure. JL specs the enclosure on the small side to make sure that the spec enclosure is small (duh, but smaller is better for most people), emphasize the bass that most people who don't know any better want and give them an overall louder system without going totally one-note and to increase the mechanical power handling. If you actually stray from the spec box and design your own, they sound much better.

This is a great explanation. I might have to build or find a box to those dimensions
