Disappointed in 10" RE SE 10 D2

So I need some opinions. I have a AB PH-2500MD. I had 3 skar IVX 12" d2 subs wired to 1.5 ohms. It was ghetto blaster loud, and it took up way too much room than I can afford to give. So then I took one of the skars and put way more than rated on it. At 14.4 the amp puts out a little over 900 rms @ 1ohm. My battery runs at 13.8 so I was around the high 800's I think. Anyway the Skar took it like a champ, but I knew it was only time until it had some issues. So I traded two of the three Skars for one good RE SE 10 D2 and one blown RE SE D2 sub with the thought of putting the blown subs magnet on a 12" basket, and having a sub built. Anyway the RE isn't anywhere close to as loud as the Skar on the same amp with both boxes built to the mfg spec. Am I wrong to think the RE should be louder than the 300 watt RMS Skar?

What surprises me is that the Skar took the power. IF I build a custom 12 do you think I will see a noticeable gain from the Skar to a more powerful custom sub?

Maybe, if you are a good sub builder. You figure the single sub is only seeing 450 watts or so. A single sub on low power is going to sound like a single sub on low power. The re may be able to take some more power but if the amp can't give it... it's going to underperform.

Maybe i'm confused, and I haven't clamped the amp yet but I read an article that the amp @ 14.4 is 980 watts, and at 12.6 volts it's 740 watts. Is this not enough to expect powerful bass from a single sub? I know it's all about perspective. I don't expect it to be 2 15" loud, but I surely thought it would be louder than a sub I paid $50 for. Yes the amp does the rated power at a fixed resistance. A subwoofer is not a fixed resistance and as it plays music the impedance rises. It's a good guideline to go by but it's not a definitive number that the sub sees. As you are playing music the sub may rise to 2 or even 4 ohms++++. Depending on how you set your gains you could be leaving power on thw table

The pros for the RE is it takes hardly any space at all, and the sound quality seems to be pretty good no matter what kind of music I play. Shoot me a price fasfocus on the non working RE. I have already stripped it of the cone though.

How do these guys take one 10", or 12" and make it crazy loud? Is it just Gobs of power to a really strong sub? I know it may sound like a dumb question, but what power range would it take to make a smaller single sub loud?

Depends what your definition of loud is. I have been impressed with an sa12 on a mb quart dsc1500. Also a DD2512 on a cm1000. In a camaro a boston g5 10 on a rockford 801s was getting down. 2 sa8's on 1200 in my camry was pretty good. If you are looking for loud like everyone on here.... Large sub, large box, large port, large amp.
Price does not equate performance. A solid 50 dollar driver could outperform a much larger driver that is not being pushed to it's potential.
@NoLoud4U will completely disagree with you there no matter what you say or how true it might be...

in my king cab frontier,it will be 1 xcon 10 @1 ohm on a skar sk1500.1 aero ported with SOLID electrical and dynamatt.be plenty loud for daily.small cabin works in my favor.
