Dimpled ports

I am going to be adding flared ports to my enclosure what is the difference between dimpled and smoth ports besides the fact they are dimpled what is the fuction of the dimples? If I get the 3db gain some people have said I would get from flared ends I will be right at 145db with 500 watts pretty nice I think.

How difference do you think it makes I am using 3 4inch dia ports in a 6.36ct ft box
truthfully it's gonna make no difference especially to the ear. it's just air being pushed and pulled from one space to another unlike a golf ball which travels through the air and encounters wind and needs to have less drag to have a smoother more consistent flight path. if someone tells you it's gonna make a difference, ask them for the proof.

So an additional db on top of the 2-3 I would gain from flared ports?
just curious but how do you figure you going to gain 2-3 dbs by using a flared port and another db for a dimpled flared port? typical gain of a ported enclosure over a sealed enclosure with the same power, same driver will usually gain ~3dbs. flared ports rarely gain any more decibels over any other properly matched port

Well right now I just have plain 4inch pvc for ports was at a show this weekend talking to Dave The Box Guy and he told me I could pick up 2-3 dbs by switching to flared ports I have seen his workk he seems like he knows what he is talking about.

if you just want to flare the port, you can do it pretty easy with a 5/8" roundover bit and a router. I did it on a box for 2 JL W7. that way you don't have to go buy an aero port than cut it to length. i don't doubt that he knows his stuff, just me personally i don't think you'll gain enough to justify the cost and time.

round over and flare are 2 different things.

Right Catman This I what I am looking at getting but had never seen dimpled ports before and thats what got me started down this path lol
ive used them in a few cars. ive seen .3-1 db from them direct swap from a presicion aero non dimpled. id do it if you have the cash to spare. but it wouldnt be louder to the ear. just meter
