Dimming at idle.

your pulley is completely the problem...and not only that, if its a crappier brand HO alt, that idle rating is probably best case senario and at 800rpm like you said, so at 600rpm, it's honestly probably like 40a, and the reason your voltage doesn't move is because that's battery resting voltage so your system if pretty much running of just the battery while at idle.

Because at 2200 RPMs when the max power is at 1600 RPMs even with the aftermarket pulley it should get more than 13.6 volts shouldn't it?

Can I get an external module to up my voltage while driving? I'd like to have more than 13.6 volts at 65 MPH. The car's a 93 Honda Accord, one site I looked at before didn't have any for it.

Edit: Will an external module mean charging my system with less amperage?

It might even be the ELD (Electronic load detector) my car drops down to 12.5 when i'm driving with no load. Try turning on your headlights or put the AC on low to see if your voltage goes up.

i don't get this...

arent these HO alts built to put out more at idle.. hence the smaller pulley, tighter wound staters... don't most competitors NEED more voltage @idle...

YGPM OP

car has no A/C. It was removed since it was empty when I got it and thanks to emissions laws and stuff it was expensive to get recharged. But it doesn't help if the headlights are on or the subs are blasting or whatever.

tried it and nothing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

you need to change the pulley on your alt, my buddy went thru this about a month ago. The problem is your alt just isnt spinning fast enough. A volt reg WILL NOT help. You alt doesnt spin fast enough to make good voltage.
