i'm using a panasonic video camera as my digital camera and the quality of the pics i get ****. i'm a total noob when it comes to digital cameras. i went too walmart and they range anywhere from $100-350. i just want something to take pictures with. what are some good brands? i don't want to spend alot. also what the hell does megapixel mean? i saw some that saw 3, 4 , 5 etc. also this will sound stupid, but when i get a camera, will it come with software so i can edit it on my computer? the camera i got now, i take a picture and it's small and when i go to make it bigger it looks shitty. any help will be appreciated as you can tell i don't know what the hell i'm talking about here.

Canon and Nikon have the best optics...

A megapixel is simply...a million pixels //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Basically, unless you want to enlarge your prints to greater than 11"x14", 3-5MP is fine. The camera usually will come with capture software, but editing will ****, generally - import into PS for the real processing.

I have a Canon A95, and it works great as a party camera and for when I don't feel like messing around with the "real" one.

Very informative site. With plenty of reviews. If you just want a point and shoot camera(not focusing on HQ) then a 3mp camera will do fine.
Why oh why do they review DSLR's with those crappy zoom kit lenses //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

Not just a knock on that site...but I think the biggest disservice manufacturers do is pair up a capable camera to a slow zoom lens.

the camera i have now takes 320 x 240 pixel pics, and if i try to make it any bigger then that, it just sucks. basically i want something i can use to take pics and e-mail them to people or whatnot, and have them be clear and bigger then 320 x 240.

The only reason why I didn't get the ELPH over the A95 is because it didn't have enough manual modes for me...call me old fashioned, but I hate the "automatic" modes found on most cameras. I always like taking photos where I'll manually set the apeture (and on digital cameras, "film" speed) and let it calculate the shutter exposure. That's just the way I think, photographically...ymmv.

well, he asked for pretty much a "point and shoot" camera. The canon elphs are just that. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

if you want a canon digicam, get it from dell.com and find a coupon code here:http://www.techbargains.com/dellcoupons.cfm

they have my camera, canon sd300 4mp, for $205 shipped with the coupon code.
