Difference between Type R and S and what box to use.

Explain to me the difference between an Alpine Type R sub and a Type S sub. I’m debating on making the change from a ported Bazooka 10” non powered sub to a sealed enclosure 10” to get a tighter/punchier bass sound. On somethings I listen to the bazooka sounds fine. Pretty good in fact. On others its real sloppy and boomy. I listen to Rock mainly and I like that punchy hammer to the head kind of bass sound. No rap boom for me!!

My current sub amp is a Profile MSX 600 (300W@4 ohms or 410w@2 ohms) . I believe the type S’s are rated at 350w rms so I believe my current amp would work for a type S. Is there a huge difference in sound between a type S and a Type R?

Also, what sealed box would you recommend for this? Would a single 10 suit my needs or would I want a dual 10?

there is build and performance. the type is very efficient and lil better suited for sealed applications. type s doesnt like bein tuned low as the R and the Type S meters louder above a certain freq. for your application type S would be the way 2 go

So if I went with type S, what kind of sealed enclosure would you recommend? Any suggestions?

Well with that amp I would say do the s's. I have the r's off about 550rms and sealed in a 1.75cft box and they sound great. Took alot of tunning, but I am finally there,lol! Good luck on your setup.

I am trying to remeber what the s's take. I think it is 1.25 sealed, but I may be mistaken. Might want to go to alpines website. Peace!

my alpine type s 12's are in about .85 cf but i have alot of polyfill and it sounds ok

but they are alil peaky

You know, I've heard that phrase before...but am not sure exactly what "peaky" means. How would you describe what peaky sounds like?

Apines website by the way says Recommended Sealed Box Volume : 0.65 – 1.5 cu. ft.

How about audio enhancers sealed boxes? They any good? In particular...I'm thinking about this:
