Difference between 10" and 15"?

So if I move from a 10" Dayton HO to a 15" Dayton HO, I know that I'll have much improved low-end extension and a louder substage, however, will the increase in moving mass result in a less accurate, sloppier sound?

The 10" has an mms of 208.6g, while the 15" has an mms of 380.6g. Has the motor been tweaked to compensate for this increase while still remaining accurate and "quick"?

Thanks in advance.

i had a 12" type R that i used to think was pretty clean/ accurate. now ive been through a few 15"s and i can say the 15"s sound better/ more precise IMO. i was just thinking of this today, because the R is now in my brothers car (same box it used to be in) and i was listening to it in his car today thinking of how sloppy it sounded compared to what im running.

No, that would be 10 inches? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif
You guys are wonderful... are you being honest though or did you just respond without even reading? This is an honest concern of mine... I love my HO and don't want to lose it's precision and ability by stepping up, I just crave some more low-end and bump on occasion.

You were referring to MMS, which I am unaware of. Therefore, I considered yourself more informed than I am, and being as I know driver size does not have an effect on the "sloppiness" of a driver, I assumed you knew the answer. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Edit: On a semi-helpful note, why not just buy another 10" HO?

imo i think the quality of sub matters for sloppy sound, not the size of it.
Well it's the same sub, both Dayton HO's, so I'd expect the same quality, and I'll be building the enclosure correctly to spec, so it's really the size that should be the factor... I just want to be sure I won't be losing my beautiful sound on my SQ tracks just to get that extra low-end thump on my occasional rap/dance.

Sub size has nothing to do with the sound quality. If you're staying with the same model sub, just different size, the only thing you'll notice is loudness. The low end should stay relatively the same. Bigger subs have a slightly lower Fs, but not enough to change the sound entirely. If proportional tuning and box size does not change, you won't notice any change in sound quality, and will notice minimal to no change at all in frequency response.

Ahh, yea I was just looking at the datasheet's and knew that mms was moving mass lol... I'm quite a newbie.

However, I'm not going with a second 10 because a single 15 is still louder and will actually use up less of my trunk, while being about the same price as buying another 10. Plus, I like the clean look of a single woofer and especially the look of a 15 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif My 10" box needs rebuilding anyway because I'm getting too much port noise, so I'd go through as much, if not more hassle with another 10.
