My suggestion is to start eating clean and get rid of all that unnatural shit you have been feeding your diet. There is a book called the 'ABS Diet' which is pretty good and what I used to get started eating clean.

Basically read the back label of everything you buy, if you can't spell/read and of the ingredients then don't get it.. While I was doing it mostly because the foods I were eating were making me tired all the time and lazy it helps HUGE amounts in loosing weight and building muscle compared to the fad diets or not eating enough which is worse than staying FAT IMO.

I try to stay around 2500 cals a day and here is an example of what I are/am eating today.

Wakeup: Protein Shake

Workout

Breakfast: 1 whole egg, 1 eggwhite omelet with a little low fat mozz and some canadian bacon, slice of whole wheat toast and a banana.

Snack 1: Apple and a handful of almonds

Lunch: Salad with some chicken breast (about 2 large breasts and 3 cups of romaine)

Snack 2: Orange and a string cheese or yogurt

Dinner: Couple more chix breasts (or lean pork chops depending on what I buy today) and as much green veggies as I can scoff down.

That is usually it for me, if I get hungry later I will eat some deli meat or maybe a PB sandwich.

Well I was in the same boat being I am 5-10 and was 285 not too long ago. What I did was not the right way at first. I just didn't eat that much, maybe 2 sometimes 3 decent size meals a day, around 2000 calories and cut pop out of my life. Sticking to diet tea and those meals and still being a couch bum, I went from 285 to 255 in a few months. Didn't feel that well though to be honest and was still tired.

So I splurged some and bought me a bowflex for way to much money, but want to get my life squared away, not to mention my fiancee had a baby, so we both use it and with the way we work, we don't have much time to head out to the gym.

I have had it only a month or so and I have lost another 10 pounds, so down to 245 and right around 20 some % body fat. Not to bad and I am starting to feel better with the exercise and eating more meals of a smaller amount.

I basically work out 3 days a week and still right about 2000 calories a day and drinking more water and it seems to work for me. Goal is to get to about 200, but would be happy at 215.

 
I went on a diet once...

ate subway everyday, buffalo chicken, and a light dinner, drank lots of water, worked out 4 - 5 times a week. Lost 60 lbs.

Gained some of it back then worked 2 jobs for a while, and at the first job, ate chicken breast everyday and then came home at 9:45pm after working since 7:30 am, got VERY lean and didn't really loose weight, just added good lean muscle.
