Did my Sundown fry my H/U!??

So my Pioneer caught fire. Had no music for a while until I had time to pull it out, and saw some wierd stuff. The RCA's on the Pioneer are compeltly burnt, it burnt a hole straight through the back.

The Pioneer still turned on and everything, just no sound cause of the RCA's. So I hooked up a Clarion unit, and when turned on it started to smoke but I unhooked it quickly enough so there was no damage.

I disconnected my RCA's from the Sundown and the deck works fine playing off the speaker amp.

Noticed the Sundown was in protection, so I guess it finally took a crap after playing .35 daily.

I've never heard of a signal through the RCA's burning up H/U's, but I guess when Sundowns blow they also **** up your decks.

Is there a short in your RCA somewhere?

It's pretty much impossible for the amp to fry the HU. The RCA inputs are isolated internally so there is no path to ground through the RCA into the amplifier -- which is really the only way for the amp to fry the outputs of the HU.

Other than a shorted RCA or an internal HU problem I can't imagine what else would cause your problem. If somehow the Pioneer took out the input section of the 1500D there is no telling, without looking inside, what happened... so when you hooked the Clarion up if may have been too late for the amp already... perhaps something in the isolation circuitry was shorted by the Pioneers failure therefore allowing a path to ground.

Ship it back to me at the address in the manual and I'll take a look. At the least you are still qualified for a discounted replacement under the 5 year "discount replacement" part of the warranty.

uh oh the first sundown to fail... glad I dont have a pioneer head unit.
I do, and mine overheats when playing my speakers/subs at high levels for over 10 mins at a time. wtf. Basically it stops playing music to the speakers and all i can hear is the bass. I take the cd out and it is freaking hot as hell. I hate it.
