Did i make the right choice?

Now i was deciding on either a Fi Q, Si Mag, or a SSA icon. I wasn't sure what any of them sounded like so i left it to reading you guys's reviews to make my decision. All i knew was that i would probably go ported and wanted to post some decent numbers but keep really clean bass. and by decent i want around the 140 mark. i planned to tune to about 30 hz reguardless which sub i got.

Well i gave in and picked up a mint condition Si mag and it's in a 2 cube sealed box and im not getting the output that I wanted(trunk car) so im gonna port it and put more power to it maybe 1100(sealed was ~800).

So what I want to know is didi I make the right choice for what I'm looking for?

im considering getting another one because they are sexy lil boogers. And it does get lowww.

Secondly, with 1/3 more power (1100 vs 800) and porting it, it will be considerably louder.

PS: That box is way too big for a Mag 12...even the generation you have 2 cubes sealed won't gain you that much more compared to 1.5 cubes.

I have personally never heard a mag, but from reading reviews and what not, they are supposed to be one of the better drivers out there. I can't wait till the new ones come out and will be picking one up. I had an Fi Q and when it played, it sounded really good, just keeping it from breaking on me was the down fall for me. Ripped surround and blown VC or say they told me. Anyway, done with Fi. SSa Icon's look nice as well, but never heard them.

I think you just either expected to much or are a big time bass head. Not saying these can't get loud, just ask Bassman, he had 2 of them doing close or over 150 dbs off some major power, but was something else.

With that said a lot of auido is install, install, install. So try a different box, make sure you set your gains and all that jazz. It should sound sweet given all those. We can't hear it, so is hard to tell you why it don't sound the way you want it too.

look up jntar, he will fill you in on tha mags. he has one in his truck sealed and i hate sealed but his single 12" wangs and sounds super clean doing it.

In a trunk car, working to maximize ways for bass to escape the trunk and into the cabin are almost always the most cost effective way to improve subbass performance. Do the seats fold down? Did you remove the rear parcel shelf speakers? etc...

sorry its a 15" not a 12. and it's just the output wasn't there. sounded great tho. im sure after I port it and put a couple more watts on it ill be smiling from ear to ear. and if not i'll def pick up another. as a matter of a fact i think there is one for sale righyt now in teh classifieds i might grab it on friday. whats the minimum ported airspace ill need for 2 15" mags to still get loud and sound good?. And this is a random question but does lower tuning take up more space than higher tuning due to port size or no?

Minimum I would do is 5.5ish for the pair. Optimally 3cf per driver without port and driver displacement.

Yes lower tuning will require a longer port raising the overall box size requirement all othe things remaining constant.

I need to find someone who can build me a box then. and while bjfisher is awsome im not to sure about getting all the measurements right for such a tight squeeze. im sure in person he could do it no prob tho. So any one local to south florida want to build a box for some cash.
