did i hurt my sub?

ok so i have 2 subs in a single chamber box hooked up mono. I was pushing in the cap to test the resistance and on one of my subs, it hits something after i certain point, the sub still works and hits, although now that i noticed it i need somewhere to go play loud to see if it makes any odd noises. One thing i also noticed, on the sub that doesnt have this issue, and all of its screws had vibrated loose, and none vibrated loose on the one with the issue. when i watch them hit they seem like they are hitting about the same, so im a bit confused here

First off, don't push in on the subs. What most likely happened is you pushed unevenly and the coil is hitting in the gap... You could damage the coil doing this. I'm not sure what you mean when you say all of the screws vibrates loose? The screws holding the sub's in?

yes the screws holding in one of the subs, they just wernt as tight as before, like most things in my car now haha, but i wasnt aware i shouldnt push in on them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif i figured after all the **** they go through with my music, that would be the last thing to hurt them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif remember this is my first true set up here, and sorry its in the wrong area, id re direct it if i could

Anybody that tells you that doesn't know what they're doing. And yes, you can push on the subs, but gently and evenly.....is what this guy should have said before. Push down but only so far.

There is no legitimate reason to push in on a subwoofer. Can you? Yes. But there is nothing to gain and you can damage the coil so why do it?

How did the mounting screws vibrate loose??
How much power are you running??
thats kind of what im wondering. Im running a JBL 1400.1 at 2 ohms, which on the site says 1500 rms but the guy i bought it from had a test that said 1804 at 2 ohms, so somehwere in between there i guess haha i havent had it tested myself

yes to be fair i had no reason to do this, mainly was just staring at it and was like "touch", but now that i know such things can happen ill avoid temptations

it isn't up to YOU weather the person wants to push inword on a subwoofer or not. They bought it with their own money, not you.

Little do you know that this is also a way to "test" the subwoofer itself to see if the driver is bad, blown, shifted coil, etc. Very simple test to do. Like I said, push inward gently with a hand spread out evenly across the cone so that you can feel the coil rubbing. If the driver is bad, you may feel/hear the coil scratching as your pressing down inword.

Woah now killer... I wasn't demanding that no one push down on their subwoofer. I was advising someone who obviously didn't know what they were doing that they could damage their subwoofer by doing so. You're the one going overboard. I didn't say it couldn't be done. But as the OP stated, he was pressing in on the sub for no particular reason, which shouldn't be done.

sooo how can you not push a subwoofer in by hand, yet let an amp push it in when you apply power to it?
That makes no sense
As long as it's a even stroke, no harm done. Amp or not, you don't want a voicecoil scraping in the gap.

Just advising a noob of the possibility of coil damage by randomly pressing on a subwoofer.
