Did I get ripped off??

I recently went down to "Da Spot" car audio near my house in san jose , and I had

them install my system, then dynamat the trunk, and put an alarm in. They did a good job on the system and dynamat (vibration is 95% gone), but when I got home I armed the car and then I forgot something in the trunk, so I put the key in and opened the trunk and the alarm didn't go off. I thought to my self "what the hell", so I tested all the doors and it goes off, just not when I open the trunk. So I call the guy and he says it is going to be an extra 40 bucks to put a "trunk pin" in. My questions for you knowledgable folks are; have you ever heard of this before? When you got a car alarm did the trunk come included? This "business" is part of the bbb, so if they tried to stiff me I can shut them down. What do you think?

thanks for the help

Most cars that do not have automatic trunk releases (require you to open the trunk with a key) do no recognize that the trunk is open when a standard alarm is installed, and they require something extra for the alarm to be set off.

oh really, well I can have it put in for free, I was just wondering if this was legit or not.

adding a trunk pin for 40 bucks? lmao drill 1 hole run 1 wire to the pin for 40 bucks? thats highway robbery. if the shop was cool about it in not explaining it to you they should be willing to do it for 20 plus parts (like 5 bucks there) lord knows its a 15 min job plus it would stop you from feeling robbed

Its legit, basic alarm installation does not include extra's like installing trunk pins.

40 bucks is also the going rate for this as well, not because of the value of the parts but the time and labour of the installer.

Is it fair? I don't know, its just the way it is.

going rate for custom work though is 40-60 dollars an hour usually for custom labor...that pin switch is cake. every shop i worked at charged 40 to hook up an acutator to make the truck pop (actuator was 39.99 also). also i might add most car alarms come with an extra switch. did they happen to get your hood?

Its legit but straight up any audio place that installs your alarm is usually screwing you for instance, most places want 4-500 to install the viper with lcd remote and w/e mean while i have this 1 guy who does it for 215 and it comes out better, its really like if you are gonna have anything done find a place that you can trust before they do anything to your car, but goodluck with all of it.
