Did I get a good deal?

I recently acquired an 18" Atomic Apocalypse X with an RE MT recone. It is in an enormous uncarpeted box of unknown dimensions (I think he said 6 cu. ft.?) with a big rectangular port. Supposedly built to the minimal size for manufacturer's specifications. DVC 2 ohms, works perfectly. I traded a Rockford T3002 (paid $100), a blown kenwood deck (paid $0), and $110 for it. So, I essentially paid $210 for it. What do you guys think? Did I get a good deal? And should I later consider an APX recone, or keep the MT?

Thanks!

Paired with an MMats 500.1d @ 1 ohm:

Atomic subs kick major as*. I've had a 12" that was in a bandpass and it was stupid crazy loud!

Do they have the same quality as they were about 7 years ago? If so, then they are great subs.

Mine hits f***in hard, and soooo much cleaner than I would expect from an 18. It has trouble on fast hitting songs though, mostly because my amp can't handle 1 ohm well, partly because it isn't in a sealed box.

good find for 210 man.

only problem is in order to get this thing to shine youll need alot of gear.

you'll want at LEAST 2kw for power, ideally 3kw.

youll want an HO alty and at least 2000 crank amps worth of batts, 3000 ideally.

plenty of 1/0. I'd do 2 runs, 1 pos 1 neg

hopefully this box is built right, get us some measurements. external and internal, and internal of the port. if you want this sub to sound awesome for daily driving youll want it on the minimal side of the recommended volume but with a lower tuning. id say around 30-34hz. anything higher than 36hz will start to lose out on the low end, and this 18 will be a monster on the low end in the right box

hope this helps

Thanks man, that helps a lot! I'm going to get a new car, and then start with the big 3, then an alty, then batteries, and somewhere in between I'll find a suitable amp. Should I stick with high quality amps, or does it make a difference when I'm pushin that much power?

smoking deal. depending on brand you want to look at cost per watt not the name on the amp. alot of amps use alot of the same boards. some do and some dont. alot do rated or close enough to it to justify the lower cost some are just crap. some do more than rated but you pay double or triple because of it when with a lower budget brand you can get the same power for less. best thing to do is set a budget and go from there. a dsc2000.1 is an under rated amp but great quality and i sell em for 330 shipped new but for the same 330 you can a crappy built ap 30001 amp that does rated power so look around and set a budget and when the time comes to buy come back and get opinions then.

Much appreciated. What do you guys think of Crunch amps? I thought they were crap, then I heard they were only a step under M.B. Quart, then I heard they were still crap, now I am reading good reviews on them on this forum. I'm talking about their high powered amps, btw. Can someone lead me in the right direction?

looks like you got a nice littl deal there, though the car needs some deadener //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
