i just did my big 3 yesterday and before it was installed, my voltage would stay around 14 maybe dropping to 13.7 after a little driving. and now when i started it up my voltage sat at 15.44 for a good 2 hours after driving, just stayed there steady. well now it sits steady at 14.44 and hasnt changed all day. very happy with it, and before i get flamed, i know the big 3 doesnt make your voltage higher.

and everyone keep in mind i do not have any stereo componets/amps installed yet.

only things i have is a 2400 in the trunk, and just installed an 1800 up front with the big 3.

well the problem is after about 5-10 minutes of driving, my information center beeps and displays "battery saver activated"...what the hell is that for?

i looked in my owners manual and it says that if the parking lamps are on while the car is running that it automatically turns them off to save the battery life. well it never did this before i did the big 3 and installed my new battery, and my parking lamps dont even shut off when it says "battery saver activated".

anyone know what this is about? i couldnt come up with a solution. and this is in an 05 grand prix gt if you needed to know.

help me out guys

Well you disconnected it. Did the Big 3 and put batteries in.

The ECM is seeing this as new stuff and tripping out.

Now reset it again.

We just id a Cobalt up here and it was doing weird stuff like that too. Just had to do as stated.

If your computer sees constant voltages above 15 volts, it can fry it. Like wrench said, sometomes a reset will make it go away. If not, I would recommend an adjustable regulator, or a new alternator with an adjustable regulator built in.

Mmm, ever since i installed my big 3 and new batts, a little light came on mine up saying that batt was low but i just prety much ignored it since my readings with a dmm always read above 13 volts..

your cars CPU usues logic controls and uses a process called ladder logic. through sensors and relays certian things happen when the CPU see a given input... depending on your alternator/cpu wiring configuration, it could be a problem with the voltage regulator or rectifiers... if its a retificer problem you could read a AC voltage from the alt or no output at all.. voltage regulators sometimes cause spkies or dips in voltage even when there is no load.. or a constantly high/ low voltage.. and its hard to identify because some cars have timed relays so when you start your car the alt charges at a higher voltage to recharge the batteries then lower back to a acceptiable voltage VIA the resistance its reads from the batteries... also it could be trying to adjust from the different ISRs in the different batteries also(voltage regulator)...this is why some manafactures don't recommend you use different batteries..

i would suggest no higher than 15.5 for short periords and for a normal charge no more 14.5 volts.... most of the voltage regulators have timed relays that will close and tell the alt charge at a higher input parameter(in your cases 14.4) when it sees the voltage has dropped past a certian point.. for instance when your start your car.. then it will simply open again and hte voltage regulator will lower the voltage to prevent over-charging the batteries.. in your case i wouldn't worry about it if its 14.4, but if you see it jump to 15+ i would take it to the dealer to get the voltage regulator adjusted and use just one type/brand of battery there after..
