dhd or fosgate?

maybe ya'll can solve an argument, between me and one of my friends...he thinks his 2 12" dhd subs and 1600 watt soundstorm amp are better than my 2 12" fosgate z's with a 401s amp... i know they're both not that good but were only in high school and we dont know whose right...any help would be appreciated

The subs that are better, are the ones that can handle the most power before distortion. Neither one will sound better than the other at regular listening levels.

The real way to know, is to have the subs in the same box, then feed each of your system the same high power and see which one struggles.

Power handling has nothing to do with quality. Period. Put any sub in the wrong box and it will sound like garbage. The chance that these two subs will work the best in the exact same size box is infinitessimal at best.

traksta15- He likes his stuff, you like yours. For him, his is probably the best. For you, yours. If you are going for sheer output, find an SPL meter and find out "who's better." If you are going for sound quality, find a neutral 3rd party that you both trust to be unbiased and have them listen to the same selection of tracks on both systems and tell you. Without hearing the systems, no one here can tell you what is best because so much depends on install and setup.

What I said is straight up correct, basically as long as each sub works, they will sound the same until a given power level. There is no SQ to notice under 100Hz. Most of these speakers are not even made by the brand-company on the dust cap, they are made buy a manufaturer who just private labels them to all these big companies.

Had no idea you had even replied to this thread until I looked at it. I have no preconceived notions about anyone but when you give the guy a complete crap answer and act like you know what you are talking about, I can't let it go. This is total garbage, and exactly the opposite of what you stuck to so adamantly in the thread where you outted yourself as a RETARD. Different subs will sound very different. If you don't get this, then why did you feel the need to brag about what gear you have in the other thread? There are subs that no matter what you do with them, will sound like trash. Kickdrums sound like a wet sponge falling on the floor. Bass guitar sounds like mush and the 808 doesn't quite make it to 101. All this takes place under 100Hz.

So? This is common practice in most all industries. In the case of the big names though there is a big difference. The big names do the design work themselves and then contract out the manufacturing to another company that exists for just that reason. It's called specialization and economies of scale. Look it up. It is much more cost effective this way and the company can make a better profit while still putting out a good product at a price the consumer is willing to pay. A good product is a good product. If you care about who makes it then that's your problem. As long as it is made to specs with good quality control and reasonable tolerances then I care much more about the quality of the design.
